Eisenhower Golf Course

Eisenhower Golf Course is located about 25 miles east of DC in Crownesville Md. While the course would benefit from a greater diversity of hole lengths, it has a reasonably varied layout with elevation changes and several doglegs. The above-average slope ratings indicate a more challenging course for the average golfer. This is probably due to some well-placed creeks and the presence of dense trees on many holes. We played the course in mid-September and although it was showing some effects from summer, it was in pretty good condition.

Additional Notes:

Despite having some condition issues, we like the course layout and therefore recommend it.

The greens had some rough patches that lead to the less than average rating. The fairways were in very good shape, but there were a number of large mud patches that kept us from improving the rating. The tee boxes were in rough shape on many holes. The bunkers were well-maintained and consistent.

The woods on the first couple holes were marked as lateral hazards, which is great for rules nerds. This means if you hit the ball in the woods, you can drop at the point where the ball entered the woods and do not have to go back to where you originally hit the shot and hit again (+2 strokes). It is a shame this policy is not adopted in more places on the course (and other courses for that matter).

There are large black and white sticks that mark 150 yards, and yardage markers on the fairways in various places. They are not always easy to spot.

The flag placement can be determined by color. Blue is in the back of the green, white is in the middle, and red is in the front.

There were water coolers roughly every five holes or so. Make sure you bring your water bottle to fill up. There was a car girl with beer, soft drinks, and snacks. The snacks were a bit weak. You may want to bring a few snacks of your own to keep your energy up.
